We first created these vambraces for a hardcover photo-shoot, and liked them so much that we decided to offer them here. We augment our hand-tooled leather vambraces with strong, superbly-designed brass splints that we fasten with copper-peened rivets. These leather scale bracers feature a heavy rivet pattern. Each vambrace is constructed of 1-1/2-inch scales that are sequentially riveted to each other as the bracer is formed, resulting in a piece that is a sturdy 2 layers thick while remaining flexible and comfortable. The rivets keep the scales tightly together - no spreading apart or upward rolling. Their finished size is approximately 7-1/2 inches at the wrist, 11 around the forearm (when laid flat) and 10 inches from wrist to elbow. Laces provide for an adjustable fit. We use 6 oz leather (just under 1/8 inch thick per layer) for our scale bracers, so they remain supple enough for comfortable wear. The studs and bosses decorating the upper edge are available in nickel only, but you have a choice of nickel or brass rivets when ordering these bracers. Our child-sized bracers are currently available in three distinctive styles. All are crafted in 5-6 oz weight leather ~ thinner than our adult bracers, and very comfortable for wee ones. Laces with grommets allow for easily adjustable fit.
